Description:
Body slender and elongated. Carapace compressed laterally and with a mid-dorsal carina. Pseudorostrum prominent. First pereion somite free from carapace. Pereiopod 2 with the basis and ischium fused. Endopod of uropod with two segments, the distal usually the longer.
Carapace in both sexes with the mid-dorsal crest bearing 8-20 teeth, starting just behind the eyelobe and continuing in diminishing size to near the hind end. The pseudorostrum is very long. Antenna 1 with two aesthetascs. The sternite of pereionite 2 in the adult male is armed with three tubercles, each with a bifid extremity, of which the median is usually the largest. There are no spurs on the bases of pereiopods 2. Pleonite 6 has four setae at its hind end.
No free telson.

Up to 12 mm.
Habitat:
Found on muddy sand, normally in somewhat deeper water.
Depth range:
Down from 30-150 metres.
Distribution in the North Sea:
Occurs possibly in the northern North Sea.
World distribution:
Recorded from the Shetland Islands, the Irish Sea, south-west Ireland, and from the Bay of Biscay and the Mediterranean.
