Description:
Adult body length up to about 45 mm. The carapace is generally more slender than in the other species; there is a well-marked ocular spine and the lateral margin is strongly notched where it meets the cervical groove. Chelipeds distinctively long, with relatively heavy chelae; dactyl more than twice the length of the thumb, which is set back subterminally on the manus; there is a short dense fringe of hairs behind the thumb.
Habitat:
Burrows in sand and muddy sand, shallow sublittoral.
Distribution:
Norway to Spain, Mediterranean and Black Sea.
