Description:
Coxal plate 1 very small; plate 2 tapering, distal margin rounded with 1 or 2 small notches; plates 3 and 4 large with the distal margin finely toothed. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal angle prolonged, rounded. Head with a short curved rostrum; eyes moderately large, rounded oval. Antenna 1, peduncle articles decreasing in length from 1 to 3, flagellum about as long as the peduncle, about 7-articulate with a few long setae. Antenna 2 longer than antenna 1, peduncle article 5 slightly longer than article 4, flagellum about 10-articulate. Gnathopods 1 and 2 generally similar, carpus with the posterodistal angle produced, margin spinose, propodus oval with posterior margin bearing 2 or 3 pairs of spines, palm very short, delimited by a small spine, dactylus slender, inner margin distinctly toothed; carpal lobe longer in gnathopod 2 than gnathopod 1. Basis of pereiopods 5 to 7 broad, oval. Uropod 3 slender, rami smooth and reaching beyond uropod 1, peduncle much longer than the rami. Telson very elongate, apex minutely 3-dentate.

Length about 2-3 mm.
Colour:
Dark brown or blackish violet in broad transverse bands.
Habitat:
Often found in shallow water amongst algae, but also extending to moderate depths: range from 0 to 200 metres.
Distribution:
Widely distributed in the North East Atlantic and Arctic Ocean; coast of Europe from Norway to Mediterranean.
