Description:
Epimeral plate 3 distal angle quadrate, posterior margin weakly crenulate. Eyes rounded, black in colour. Antenna 1 about reaching end of peduncle article 4 of antenna 2, flagellum about 7-articulate. Male antenna 2 up to half body length, peduncle robust, flagellum up to about 22-articulate; female antenna 2 shorter and less robust. Male gnathopod 1 merus with very small lobe on posterior margin, carpus and propodus with prominent posterior lobes, palm transverse, dactylus shorter than palm. Female gnathopod 1 merus, carpus and propodus without posteromarginal lobes, dactylus longer than palm. Male gnathopod 2 basis robust, ischium with lobe on anterior margin, propodus very large, oval, palm oblique, spinose, markedly sinuous, dactylus moderately robust with inner margin sinuous matching palm. Female gnathopod 2 basis broad proximally with anterior margin strongly convex, merus, carpus and propodus with prominent posterior lobes, dactylus very small. Pereopod 7 basis with large posterior lobe, posterior margin weakly crenulate, propodus very long and slender. Uropods. Telson longer than broad, distinctly cleft, each lobe with several small spines.

Up to 22 mm in male, 16 mm in female.
Colour:
Dark brown.
Habitat:
Semiterrestrial. A species found in moist habitats under stones or amongst damp vegetation, usually close to fresh or brackish water.
Distribution:
Mediterranean, Black Sea, Red Sea, Atlantic coast of North Africa and Europe to southern North Sea.
