Description:
Male coxal plate 1 acute and very strongly produced anteriorly. Antenna 1 about two-thirds of the body length, peduncle article 2 little longer than article 1, flagellum about twice the length of the peduncle, up to about 23-articulate: accessory flagellum 4 to 5-articulate, with the distal article minute. Antenna 2 shorter than antenna 1, peduncle articles 4 and 5 about equal, flagellum equal to the length of the peduncle article 5 and about 6-articulate. Male gnathopod 1 basis long and slender, carpus very large, posterodistal margin with a long tooth, in mature specimens there may be an accessory tooth on the proximal margin which is often indistinct or absent in small specimens, propodus elongate with the posterior margin sinuous. Female gnathopod 1 basis moderately slender, propodus a little longer than the carpus, palm oblique, delimited by a slender spine. Male gnathopod 2 carpus and propodus elongate, palm almost transverse. Female gnathopod 2 basis slender, propodus much longer and more slender than the carpus, palm almost transverse. Pereiopod 7 very elongate.

Predominately subtidal to depths of about 200 metres, amongst algae and sponges; occasionally collected from the intertidal zone.
Distribution:
North Atlantic, American and European coasts; from Norway to North Africa, Mediterranean and Black Sea.
