Normanion quadrimanus

Description:
Coxal plates moderately large; epimeral plate 3 with the distal angle broadly rounded. Head with only slightly produced lateral lobes, triangular; eyes very large with the visual elements distinct. Antenna 1 relatively short, peduncle robust with articles 2 and 3 not strongly compressed, flagellum slender and about 6-articulate; accessory flagellum 3-articulate. Antenna 2 equal in length as antenna 1, flagellum short, about 6-articulate. Gnathopod 1 large, basis and ischium elongate, carpus with a narrowly rounded posterior lobe, propodus characteristic, about as broad as long, anterior margin very short, posterior margin broadly convex and almost semicircular, palm transverse and delimited by a pair of stout spines, dactylus as long as the palm. Gnathopod 2 very slender, minutely chelate with the distal process of the propodus acute. Pereiopods long and slender, sparsely setose; pereiopods 3 and 4 with a small dactylus; pereiopods 5 to 7 basis elongate oval, propodus very long and slender, dactylus elongate spiniform. Uropod 3 rami a little shorter than the peduncle. Telson short, quadrangular, entire.

Size:
Length about 2 to 4 mm.

Colour:
Pale yellow, with orange patches on the sides of pereion.

Habitat:
Depth range from 20 to 565 metres. Found on the skin of Etmopterus spinax and Melanogrammus aeglefinus .

Distribution:
North-East Atlantic; only recorded from west Norway, north and west France and the British Isles.
