Description:
Carapace medium, around 0.7 mm long, elongate subrhomboidal with bluntly pointed or narrowly rounded extremities, compressed. Weak caudal process well above mid-height position. Female slightly higher and larger than male. Fused zone moderately broad, especially posteriorly.
Mandible coxa long. Second leg with a short, slender knee seta. Fourth podomere of third leg with a strongly spinose anterior margin. Male copulatory appendage with three distal processes: the anterior one short, bicuspate; the central one relatively large, banana-shaped and the posterior one widening distally: basal capsule with an evenly convex anterior margin (P. angliorum 5 ). Living specimens white or pale brown.
Remarks:
P. angliorum has a broader fused zone than P. ensiforme Brady, which it otherwise closely resembles (see also Remarks on P. ensiforme).
Distribution:
So far known only from East Anglia and the Thames Estuary, but may be more widespread as it has previously been confused with P. ensiforme.
