Description:
Pseudorostrum of female short, without an antennal notch below. The anteroventral and front edges of the carapace not acutely serrated but cut into square-topped divisions; the latter, however, are not easily seen. Eyelobe minute. Pereionites 1 and 2 of adult female produced forwards as in Leptostylis ampullacea but body more densely hairy. Male carapace not hairy, with a machicolated ventrolateral keel on either side; the flagellum of antenna 2 is shorter than the body. Telson shorter than pleonite 6 with one pair of lateral spinules. Pereiopod 1 elongate, with basis not much more than half as long as rest of appendage. Pereiopod 2 with dactyl much more than twice as long as propodus and distinctly longer than carpus. Peduncle of uropods more than twice as long as telson, excluding its end spines; endopod with proximal segment not nearly equal to second and third combined.

Distribution in the North Sea:
Northern North Sea, Skagerrak.

World distribution:
Round the British Isles this species has been collected in the North Sea:, the Irish Sea and the Firth of Clyde. From there it occurs northwards to N Norway and possibly into the Arctic Ocean, off Iceland and also in the NW Pacific Ocean.
