Bell
Description:
Up to 40 mm long. Carapace with a median ridge; rostrum slightly upturned, its strong, toothed margins continuing on to the carapace; eyes large. Chelipeds long and unequal; fingers up to twice the length of the manus, compressed and covered with tufts of setae; minutely serrate cutting edges, except for the proximal part of the dactyl; tips crossed. Only the exopodite of the uropod has a transverse suture.
Habitat:
Burrows in mud from 35 to 1400 metres.
Distribution:
From Iceland and Norway to Mediterranean; also North America, Arabian Gulf, Indian Ocean and Pacific.
