Description:
Overall length of adult about 65 mm; carapace 32 mm; dark chestnut-brown with greenish tinge; spine tips red; juveniles reddish. Apical spine of rostrum stands out from, but is larger than the lateral spines, one epigastric spine on each side; carapace shiny between grooves and scattered short hairs, chelae closely covered in scale-like tubercles; merus of maxilliped 3 bears a distal row of spines, the end ones longest (G. squamifera detail).

Habitat:
From LWST to shallow sublittoral, juveniles deeper (30-70 m).

Distribution:
From Norway to Azores and Mediterranean.
