Rhithropanopeus harrisii

Description:
Carapace flat, with four teeth on anterolateral edge. Chelae smooth.
This crab was originally discovered in The Netherlands in 1874 but was later found to be identical with an American species; presumably it was introduced.

Size:
Carapace length up to 23 mm.

Habitat:
This species is found in estuaries, occasionally wandering into fresh water.

Distribution:
This North American species is now found from the Seine to the Baltic, but not in Britain.
