Gitanopsis bispinosa

Description:
Pleon segments 1 and 2 each produced dorsally into a backwardly directed tooth; coxal plate 1 tapering, distal margin rounded; plates 1 to 3 distal margin weakly toothed. Epimeral plate 3 quadrate, the distal angle narrowly rounded. Head with a short broad rostrum, lateral lobes narrowly produced; eyes moderately large, rounded. Antenna 1 peduncle articles 1 and 2 about equal, flagellum about twice length of peduncle, up to about 15-articulate, flagellum with long setae. Antenna 2 little longer than 1, peduncle articles 4 and 5 about equal, flagellum up to about 16-articulate. Gnathopods 1 and 2 generally similar, carpus with posterodistal angle broadly produced, spinose, propodus with palm strongly oblique, convex, palmar margin microscopically toothed and with several long spinules, dactylus minutely spinulose; carpal lobe longer in gnathopod 2 than 1. Pereiopods 3 to 7 slender, spinulose; pereiopods 5 to 7 basis broadly oval, posterior margin minutely serrate. Uropod 3 slender, spinulose, reaching to apex of uropod 1, rami almost as long as peduncle. Telson narrowly triangular, apex minutely 3-dentate, reaching to end of peduncle of uropod 3.

Size:
Up to 6 mm.

Colour:
Whitish banded with light red.

Habitat:
Usually found between 100 and 200 metres.

Distribution:
Greenland; coast of Norway, Oslofjord and Arran Island, Firth of Clyde.
