Description:
Generally very similar to Corophium volutator . Urosome segments not fused. Head with triangular rostrum. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 weakly setose, ventral margin with 2 (rarely 3) spines, inner margin with 1 or 2 spines. Female antenna 1 peduncle article 1 ventral margin concave, spines long, inner margin not crenulate. Male antenna 1 peduncle article 1 ventral margin strongly concave, spines small, inner margin weakly crenulate. Female antenna 2 peduncle article 4 distal ventrolateral angle with single spine or process, inner surface with single spine, article 5 with single spine. Male antenna 2 peduncle article 4 distal ventrolateral angle with long acute process, inner surface without spine, article 5 without spine. Gnathopod 1 palm transverse, evenly convex. Pereiopods 3 and 4 dactylus shorter than propodus and carpus combined. Uropod 1 peduncle outer margin with 11 to 15 spines and 1 to 5 proximal setae, inner margin with 1 distal spine; uropod 2 peduncle with 5 to 6 dorsal spines.
Size:
Up to 7 mm.
Habitat:
This species makes burrows in muddy sand of estuarine mud-flats, ranging from about mid-tide level down to low-water neap-tide; tolerates near full salinity.
Distribution:
North Sea; English Channel; Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of France.
