Description:
Urosome segments fused; lateral ridge distinct, uropods 1 and 2 inserted ventrally. Head with a triangular rostrum, especially pronounced in male. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 ventral margin with one distal spine. Female antenna 1 weakly setose, peduncle article 1 ventral margin with large spine. Male antenna 1 densely setose, ventral margin with a small spine. Female antenna 2 peduncle article 4 distal ventrolateral angle with obtuse process bearing small spine, inner ventral margin with 1 or 2 small spines, article 5 ventral margin without process or spine. Male antenna 2 peduncle article 4 distal ventrolateral angle with 1 large and 1 small process, inner margin without spines, article 5 ventral margin with small proximal process. Gnathopod 1 palm transverse, evenly convex. Uropod 1 peduncle outer margin with 7 or 8 spines, inner margin with one distal spine; uropod 2 peduncle inner margin with one distal spine, outer margin with 3 to 5 setae.

Size:
Up to about 6 mm.

Colour:
White.

Habitat:
Shallow water and lower intertidal; constructs tubes in marshy banks and ditches, on weeds or submerged objects, in waters of low salinity; tolerates nearly fresh water.

Distribution:
Atlantic coast of North America; North Sea; English Channel, Baltic.
