Cressa dubia

Description:
Pereion segments 6 and 7 and pleon segments 1 to 3 each with a single dorsal tooth on the posterior margin. Coxal plate 1 very small; plates 2 and 3 posterodistal angle with 3 to 5 strong serrations. Epimeral plate 3 distal angle prolonged, subacute. Head with lateral lobes narrowly produced, apex acute with a small accessory tooth on the lower margin; eyes moderately large, rounded-oval. Antenna 1 about three-quarters body length in female, as long as body in male, peduncle article 1 long and robust, article 2 with small distal tooth, flagellum about twice length of peduncle, very slender, up to about 22-articulate. Antenna 2 much shorter than 1, peduncle article 4 longer than 5. flagellum about 10-articulate. Gnathopod 1 simple, propodus shorter than carpus, both slender. Gnathopod 2 basis elongate, carpus with prominent posterior lobe, propodus triangular, narrow proximally, palm oblique and spinulose, delimited by distinct angle and small tooth with spine. Pereiopods slender, dactylus long and curved; pereiopods 5 to 7 basis oval. Uropod 3 peduncle little longer than ramus, distal article of ramus about half length of proximal article. Telson triangular, apically tridentate with middle tooth elongate.

Size:
Length usually up to 3 mm, occasionally as large as 6 mm.

Colour:
Dark brown, with darker markings.

Habitat:
From 5 to 150 metres; often on rocky bottoms, coarse sand, or shell gravel.

Distribution:
North East Atlantic; North Sea; European coast from Norway to western Mediterranean.
