Description:
Body markedly tumid, extremely robust and rugose; anterior pereion strongly arched; posterior pereion and pleon carinate; pereion segment 7 and pleon segments 1 to 3 each with prominent backwardly directed dorsal keel and pair of lesser dorsolateral ridges; pleon segment 4 with distinct mid-dorsal notch and pointed keel. Coxal plates 1 to 3 narrow, pointed distally; plate 4 strongly developed and much longer than 5, distal angle and posterior angle acute; plate 6 with small tooth on posterior margin. Epimeral plate 3 with 2 small teeth on posterior margin. Head, rostrum elongate, weakly curved; eyes very large, swollen. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 equal to 2 and 3 combined, flagellum multi-articulate. Antenna 2 little longer than 1, flagellum multi-articulate. Gnathopods slender, subchelate; gnathopod 1 basis densely setose, carpus little longer than propodus, palm short, minutely toothed. dactylus straight with inner margin distinctly toothed. Gnathopod 2 more slender than 1, carpus only slightly longer than propodus; palm short, almost transverse, minutely toothed, dactylus straight with inner margin distinctly toothed. Pereiopods 3 and 4 slender. Pereiopods 5 and 6 basis robust, scarcely expanded. Pereiopod 7 basis broad with small posterodistal tooth. Uropod 3 rami lanceolate, spinose. Telson slightly longer than wide, apex notched.

Up to about 16 mm.
Colour:
Whitish with a red tinge.
Habitat:
Depth range about 50 to 650 metres.
Distribution:
North East Atlantic; North Sea; European coast from northern Norway to Mediterranean.
