Gammaropsis nitida

Description:
Coxal plates with a few marginal setae. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal angle with a small tooth. Head with broadly produced lateral lobes, subacute; eyes moderately large, rounded-oval. Antennae densely setose, about equal, more than half body length. Antenna 1 peduncle article 3 equal to, or little longer than, article 1, article 2 much longer than 3, flagellum up to about 18-articulate, accessory flagellum absent. Antenna 2 peduncle articles 4 and 5 about equal, flagellum up to about 18-articulate. Gnathopod 1 slender, setose, propodus oval, much smaller than carpus, palm convex, minutely toothed, not delimited from posterior margin, dactylus very elongate with inner margin toothed. Gnathopod 2 in female much larger than 1, carpus short, propodus robust, setose, broadly oval, palm strongly sculptured, palmar margin excavate with truncated distal process, margin finely crenulate. Gnathopod 2 in male propodus similar to female except much larger and more robust, palmar margin with deep narrow sinus between prominent truncated distal process and angular proximal process, margin finely crenulate, dactylus short and broad with inner margin sinuous. Pereiopods 5 to 7 robust. Uropods 1 to 3 spinose; uropod 1 peduncle distoventral angle with short spine; uropods 1 and 2 inner ramus little longer than outer; uropod 3 rami about equal. Telson broad, apex with 2 groups of spinules.

Size:
Up to 8 mm.

Colour:
Mottled dark brown.

Habitat:
From the shallow subtidal to about 200 metres.

Distribution:
North Atlantic, American and European coasts; North Sea; from Iceland to English Channel.
