Gammaropsis palmata

Description:
Coxal plates moderately elongate, plate 5 with an anterior lobe almost as long as plate 4. Epimeral plate 3 with the distal margin obtusely angular. Head with the lateral lobes strongly produced, apex acute, eyes moderately large, rounded-oval. Antennae with few long marginal setae; antenna 1 less than half body length, peduncle article 3 longer than 1, article 2 longer than 3, flagellum up to about 5-articulate; accessory flagellum 2-articulate with article 1 elongate, article 2 minute Antenna 2 equal to length of 1, peduncle articles 4 and 5 about equal, flagellum up to about 6-articulate. Gnathopod 1 propodus slightly longer than carpus, palm delimited by slender spine, in female palm convex, in male palm concave, dactylus longer than palm with proximal inner margin minutely toothed. Female gnathopod 2 slightly larger than 1, propodus subrectangular, palm oblique, weakly concave, delimited by slender spine, dactylus longer than palm, inner proximal margin minutely toothed. Male gnathopod 2 much 1arger than1, propodus robust, rectangular, palm irregularly convex, poorly delimited from posterior margin, dactylus curved and closing across inner surface of propodus. Pereiopods 5 to 7 basis broad, tapering distally, posterior margin weakly serrate. Uropod 1 peduncle distoventral angle with large curved tooth, outer ramus much shorter than inner; uropod 2 outer ramus also shorter than inner; uropod 3 rami about equal length. Telson rounded with pair of small dorsal spinules.

Size:
Up to 3 mm.

Colour:
Whitish, with pale brown bands.

Habitat:
From 10 to 80 metres.

Distribution:
Atlantic coast of Europe from Norway to Mediterranean.
