Megamphopus cornutus

Norman, 1869

Description:
Coxal plate 1 in male narrowly prolonged anteriorly, apex deflexed; in female basic. Distal margin of epimeral plates 2 and 3 broadly rounded. Head with broad lateral lobes, apex acute; eyes large, suboval. Antennae slender, sparsely setose; antenna 1 less than half body length, peduncle articles 1 and 3 about equal length, article 1 stout, article 2 long and slender, flagellum up to about 8-articulate; accessory flagellum minute, 1-articulate. Antenna 2 longer than 1, peduncle article 3 elongate, article 5 longer than 4, flagellum about 9-articulate. Gnathopod 1 and 2 in female very small, slender, setose; gnathopod 1 propodus shorter than carpus, narrowly oval, posterior margin setose with 2 or 3 slender spines, palmar margin minutely toothed, dactylus elongate with inner margin toothed. Gnathopod 2 in female slightly larger than 1, propodus and carpus about equal length, strongly setose, palmar margin minutely toothed, weakly emarginate distally. Male gnathopod 1 carpus strongly setose with small distal process, propodus shorter than carpus, oval, posterior margin with 5 stout spines and few setae, dactylus large and robust; in large male palmar spines strongly developed, setae reduced, dactylus very robust and as long as entire posterior margin of propodus. Male gnathopod 2 much larger than 1, weakly setose, basis curved proximally, propodus larger than carpus, posterior margin about straight, palm short with 2 rounded processes, proximal process with stout spine, dactylus robust, sinuous, much longer than palm; in large male proximal spine may be absent; in small male carpus is much shorter and triangular, propodus oval and palm devoid of sculpturing but still delimited by stout spine, dactylus short and curved. Pereiopods 5 to 7 slender, basis only weakly expanded. Uropod 1 peduncle distoventral angle with curved spine; uropods 1 to 3 rami spinose with long apical spines; outer ramus shorter than inner. Telson broad, angular, distolateral angles with small spine.
