Description:
Coxal plate 1 prolonged anteriorly, rounded; plates 1-4 with distal margin rounded. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal angle quadrate or with minute blunt tooth. Eyes large, irregularly rounded, bright red in colour. Antenna 1 about one-third body length, peduncle articles 1-2 subequal length, article I with distal angle acute, flagellum about 15 -articulate. Antenna 2 little shorter than 1, peduncle article 4 longer than 5. flagellum about 7-articulate. Gnathopod I carpal process spiniform, smooth, curved distally, propodus with inner margin minutely toothed, dactylus between one-third and one-half length of propodus. Gnathopod 2 carpus with broad, densely setose, posterior lobe, margin lobed and crenulate, propodus extremely large and robust; anterodistal angle acute, palm irregularly toothed dactylus long and curved; propodus larger in male than female and margin more strongly sculptured. Pereopods slender. Telson about three times as long as wide, apex acute.

Up to 12-18 mm.
Colour:
Pinkish with darker transverse banding, sometimes pale greenish dorsally.
Habitat:
Depth range from 0 to 600 metres, occasionally found intertidally, often inhabits cavities of sponges, ascidians, or holdfasts of algae.
Distribution:
North Atlantic, widespread; Mediterranean; Indian Ocean; Australasia.
