Description:
Body very stout; coxal plates moderately short; plate 1 very small and largely concealed by plate 2, plate 4 weakly emarginate posteriorly; epimeral plate 3 with the posterodistal angle quadrate. Head with broad lateral lobes, only slightly produced; eyes large and irregularly oval. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 large, articles 2 and 3 not compressed, flagellum about 4-articulate; accessory flagellum small, 2-articulate. Antenna 2 equal in length to antenna 1, peduncle stout, flagellum extremely small and slender, and much shorter than the peduncle article 5, flagellum 3-articulate. Gnathopod 1 propodus oval, a little longer than the carpus, palm oblique but poorly delimited. Gnathopod 2 propodus much shorter than the carpus, minutely chelate. Pereiopods 3 to 7 short and robust, almost devoid of setae or spines, merus expanded, propodus elongate with a small tooth close to the base of the large dactylus. Uropods 1 and 2 biramous, rami about equal in size, upper margins of the rami and peduncle finely toothed; uropod 3 small, peduncle short, rami about equal with the margins finely toothed. Telson elongate, distally truncate with the apical margin weakly concave.

Length about 3 to 4 mm.
Colour:
Yellowish, or whitish with a red tinge on pereion.
Habitat:
Depth range from 0 to 100 metres, occasionally collected intertidally amongst algae and sponges at low water.
Distribution:
North-East Atlantic, North Sea, Mediterranean; European coasts from west Norway to the western Mediterranean and North Africa.
