Arrhis phyllonyx

Description:
Body robust, only weakly laterally flattened. Coxal plates short, margins setose; plate 1 very strongly prolonged anteriorly; plate 2 narrow; plate 3 with distal margin concave; plates 4 to 7 broad. Epimeral plates 1 to 3 broadly rounded. Head without a rostrum; eyes indistinct (only represented by patch of white pigment in fresh material). Antenna 1 peduncle extremely elongate, article 2 very slender and setose and almost twice length of article 1, flagellum about 15-articulate. Female antenna 2 about equal to length of 1, flagellum about 30-articulate. In male antenna 2 longer than 1, multi-articulate. Gnathopod 1 carpal lobe short and broad, setose, propodus oval, palm convex, margin setose and finely toothed. Gnathopod 2 longer and more slender than 1, carpal lobe long and slender, setose, palm convex, margin setose and minutely toothed. Pereiopod 3 basis robust, curved, anterodistal angle densely setose, merus very large and densely setose, carpus with posterior margin strongly setose, dactylus lanceolate. Pereiopod 4 similar to 3 except for shape and setation of basis. Pereiopods 5 and 6 robust and very densely setose. basis with several plumose setae, dactylus lanceolate and almost equal to combined length of carpus and propodus. Pereiopod 7 elongate, weakly spinose, dactylus spiniform. Telson as long as wide, distal margin about straight.

Size:
Up to 20 mm.

Colour:
Whitish with a pink tinge.

Habitat:
Depth range from about l0 to l000 metres; locally very common.

Distribution:
Arctic Ocean, circumpolar and very widely recorded; North Atlantic, American coast, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Orkney, Skagerrak.
