Harpinia crenulata

Description:
Pleon densely setulose dorsally in female. Coxal plates 1 to 3 with the posterodistal margin rounded, distal margin with only about 3 to 5 plumose setae. Posterodistal angle of epimeral plate 3 with a small tooth and often with 1 to 3 small serrations and a single long seta. Rostral hood without tooth on the lateral margin. Antenna 1 flagellum about 6-articulate; accessory flagellum 5-articulate. Antenna 2 flagellum 5-articulate. Gnathopod 2 little larger than 1; little larger and more robust in female than male; propodus oval, palm convex and delimited by prominent acute process and slender spine. Pereiopods 3 and 4 robust, carpus spinose on posterior margin. Pereiopod 5 basis slender, merus, carpus and propodus only moderately setose. Pereiopod 6 extremely elongate and quite slender, carpus and propodus weakly spinose and with few long setae on posterior margins, distal angle of propodus with small group of very long setae, dactylus also very long and slender. Pereiopod 7 basis, posterior margin irregularly toothed with distal teeth bifid; posterior margin also with long setae. Female uropod 3 outer ramus sparsely spinulose, inner ramus little shorter than article 1 of outer ramus, both rami with long apical seta; male uropod 3 rami slender, elongate, naked, outer ramus slightly longer than inner, often with short apical setule. Telson short and deeply cleft, each lobe with long lateral seta and often with minute apical setule.

Size:
Up to 4 mm.

Colour:
Greyish white.

Habitat:
Depth range from 10 to 200 metres; also recorded deeper than 1000 metres.

Distribution:
North Atlantic; Greenland, Iceland, European coast from northern Norway to western Mediterranean.
