Description:
Body robust; pleon segment 4 deeply depressed dorsally with pair of anteriorly directed setae and pair of stout posteriorly directed spines. Coxal plate 1 elongate, tapering to narrowly rounded apex, posterior margin with small tooth, posterodistal margin with 6 to 8 long setae; coxal plates 2 and 3 posterodistal angle with well defined tooth, distal margin with 15 to 20 long setae; coxal plate 4 rounded, distal margin with up to 50 setae. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal angle acutely produced, tooth reaching beyond posterior margin of plate, but in large males tooth much reduced and only trace may remain, distal margin with 4 or 5 spine groups. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 apex broadly rounded, ventral margin with 4 or 5 plumose setae, flagellum in male 10 to 12-articulate, in female 7 to 8-articulate. Antenna 2 flagellum in female 8 to 9-articulate, in male filiform and exceeding body length.

Depth range from 0 to 75 metres, usually on fine sand.
Distribution:
North East Atlantic; North Sea; European coasts from southern Norway to Mediterranean.
