Description:
Body robust; pleon segment 4 depressed dorsally with pair of anteriorly directed setae but no posteriorly directed spines. Coxal plate 1 angular, apex subacute, posterior margin smooth, posterodistal margin with 5 to 7 setae in female and 3or 4 setae in male; coxal plates 2 and 3 posterodistal margin rounded, distal margin with about 7 or 8 setae in male, and 10 to 12 setae in female. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal margin broadly rounded, distal margin with only 2 or 3 small spine groups. Eyes rounded in female, kidney-shaped in male. Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 tapering distally, apex evenly rounded, ventral margin with 2 plumose setae, occasionally 3, flagellum in female 6 to 7-articulate, in male 10 to 14-articulate. Antenna 2 flagellum in female 8 to 9-articulate, in male long and slender, about one-half to two-thirds body length. Uropod 3 outer ramus article 1 broad, article 2 only about one-quarter length of article 1.

Size:
Up to 6 mm.

Colour:
Reddish, but amount of pigmentation variable.

Habitat:
This species can be found intertidally above HWN levels on sandy beaches; may occur in areas with a reduced salinity.

Distribution:
North Sea, Denmark, Norway, Baltic, also British west coasts.
