Metopa latimana

Description:
Body rather slender; coxal plate 4 distal margin convex; epimeral plate 3 posterodistal angle quadrate or weakly prolonged. Head with broadly rounded lateral lobes; eyes small, rounded. Antenna 1 much longer than antenna 2, peduncle article 1 longer than article 2, article 3 very small, flagellum almost two and a half times the length of the peduncle. Antenna 2 rather short and stout, peduncle articles 4 and 5 about equal, flagellum equal to the length of peduncle articles 4 and 5 together. Gnathopod 1 elongate, merus prolonged distally, merus and carpus setose, propodus more slender and shorter than the carpus, palm short, oblique, dactylus small with the inner margin setose. Gnathopod 2 robust, propodus large, rectangular, palm transverse and delimited by a small tooth, palmar margin convex and smooth or weakly crenulate. Pereiopods 3 to 7 elongate, robust, dactylus very large and elongate. Pereiopods 6 and 7 basis broadly rounded, merus strongly expanded. Uropod 3 peduncle short with a single small apical spine, article 1 and 2 of the ramus about equal in length. Telson oval, devoid of spines or with a pair of small dorsolateral spinules, apex rounded.

Greenland to east Scotland.
