Paramunna bilobata

Description:
Body short, oval, two times as long as broad. Short appendages; antenna 2 less than half the body length. Cephalon with a pronounced bilobed frontal border. Pereion segments 5 to 7 much smaller than segments 1 to 4; eyes on lateral extensions of the head. Molar process of mandible normal in structure, strongly developed with a truncate, denticulate grinding apex. Uropods small, lacking a peduncle. Pleopod 1 of females absent, pleopod 2 forming a plate-like operculum; male pleopod 1 forming a copulatory preoperculum contributed to by pleopod 2.
Up to 1.0 mm body length; red in colour.

Habitat:
Predominantly sublittoral among algae and hydroids, down to 200 metres.

Distribution:
A northern species: Norway, Lofoten, Shetland and east coast of Scotland.
