Cheirocratus sundevallii

Description:
Urosome segment 1 dorsal margin with 3 small teeth, segment 2 with 4 teeth each with long seta, segment 3 only with pair of setae. Coxal plates small. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal angle with small tooth. Head with lateral lobes very prominent, rounded, separated from post-antennal angle by narrow cleft; eyes moderately large, rounded. Antenna 1 shorter than peduncle of antenna 2, flagellum about equal to length of peduncle; accessory flagellum very small, 2-articulate. Antenna 2 peduncle long and slender, article 3 with apical tooth, flagellum slender. Gnathopod 1 simple, setose, slender, propodus little shorter than carpus, dactylus small. Female gnathopod 2 similar to 1 except little larger. Male gnathopod 2 basis robust and angular, carpus short, propodus very large, oval, posterior margin convex and densely fringed with long setae, palm submarginal with few small spines; dactylus closing across inner surface of propodus. Pereiopods 5 to 7 elongate, slender. Uropod 3 elongate, rami about equal, lanceolate, spinose. Telson deeply cleft, lobes divergent, apically spinose.

Size:
Up to 10 mm.

Colour:
Yellow or orange, mottled with red.

Habitat:
Depth range from 0 to 200 metres.

Distribution:
North East Atlantic; southern Baltic, European coasts from northern Norway to the Mediterranean.
