Description:
Antenna 1 flagellum with 4 articles, antenna 2 flagellum with 5 articles. Lacinia of the right mandible expanded at the apex, which bears a fringe of serrations; molar process absent. Pleon segment 5 with a Y-shaped carina on the mid-dorsal surface. Pleotelson with two pairs of tubercles, each of the posterior pair being followed by a slight longitudinal carina, especially in females; lateral crests of the pleotelson and the postero-dorsal margin lack tubercles. Uropod exopod much shorter than endopod and with an apical claw; endopod elongate, apex blunt, lacking claw. Pleopod 5 lacks marginal setae. Males up to 3.0 mm body length; females up to 3.4 mm.

Habitat:
A temperate wood-boring species.

Distribution:
Originally described from Holland (Holthuis, 1949), the range of this species in Europe to the south of Britain remains to be worked out. Elsewhere it is recorded from New Zealand, South Africa and the Californian coast of North America.
